PURPOSE: A search preference item defining and a multimedia contents search structure are provided to define and describe a user search preference item for referring to user characteristics in performing a contents based search operation so that it enables a user to search for desired contents more correctly. CONSTITUTION: The structure comprises a query input module(100), a user search preference description module(200), a query contents adaptation module(300), a search execution module(400), a specific value database(500), a search result adaptation module(600) and a search result output module(700). If a user inputs query contents at the query input module(100), the query contents with the user search preference, output by the user search preference description module(200), is transmitted to the query contents adaptation module(300). The adapted characteristic value of the query contents is transmitted to the search execution module(400), and is compared with the characteristic value stored at the database(500). The compared result is transmitted to the search result adaptation module(600), and is adapted according to the user search preference. Finally, the search result is output by the search result output module(700).
