PURPOSE: A method for correcting an error of a pickup transfer device is provided to improve speed of reading data recorded at a wanted position on an optical disk by self-correcting an error generated by optical disk deviation. CONSTITUTION: A pickup assembly is transferred to read data stored in an optical disk, so that the number of target tracks is calculated(S11). Direction of a target error is confirmed(S12). In the case that the direction of the target error is inward, seek track error correction is executed(S13). The pickup assembly is transferred to read an address on a disk at an arriving point to confirm whether a position of the pickup assembly is a target position(S14-S15). If so, an error of inward direction is calculated and an inward error correction value of the pickup assembly is calculated(S16-S17). The calculated error correction is stored to be used as transfer data in transferring the pickup assembly. In the case that the direction of the target error is outward, seek track error correction is executed(S18). The pickup assembly is transferred to confirm whether a position of the pickup assembly is a target position(S19-S20). If so, an error of outward direction is calculated and an outward error correction value of the pickup assembly is calculated(S21-S22).
