PURPOSE: A field emission display is provided to achieve improved screen quality by permitting the electron emitted from the plane electron source to reach the phosphor layer of the corresponding pixel. CONSTITUTION: A field emission display comprises a front substrate and a rear substrate opposed each other; a gate electrode(25) formed on a surface of the rear substrate opposed to the front substrate; an insulation layer formed on the rear substrate in such a manner that the insulation layer covers the gate electrode; a cathode electrode(29) formed on the insulation layer, into the line pattern crossing the gate electrode; a plane electron source(31) formed on the cathode electrode and made of a carbon based material having a low work function; a counter electrode electrically connected to the gate electrode and disposed on the insulating layer in such a manner that the counter electrode forms an electric field toward the plane electron source; a focusing opposing electrode(41) formed between the counter electrode and the cathode electrode, and which forms an electric field for controlling the passage of the electron emitted from the plane electron source; an anode electrode formed on a surface of the front substrate opposed to the rear substrate; and a phosphor layer formed on the anode electrode, and which emits light by the electron emitted from the plane electron source.
