PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a mounting area, and to correctly read image data of a pattern on an inspection object even if the inspection object is made of a soft material. SOLUTION: A transparent rotating roller 29 is so mounted as to be rotated by exposing a part of its circumferential surface from a slit formed in a housing. In a hollow of the rotating roller 29, a one-dimensional imaging element 24 and an imaging optical system (SELFOC lens 22) for imaging, in the imaging element 24, a part of the roller 29 for bringing the inspection object (finger) into press contact are mounted SO as not to gear with the rotation of the roller.
