<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain pressure loss of a particulate filter small without deteriorating a fine particle collecting efficiency of the particulate filter. <P>SOLUTION: This filter comprises an upstream filter 3 and a downstream filter 4 that are spaced at a slight gap 2 with respect to an exhaust gas flow direction. An exhaust flow path of the upstream filter is formed by an exhaust gas passage 5, whose upstream and downstream ends are opened, and an exhaust gas outflow passage 6, whose upstream end is closed and downstream end is opened. An exhaust flow path of the downstream filter is formed by an exhaust gas inflow passage 7, whose downstream end is closed and upstream end is opened, and an exhaust gas passage 8, whose upstream and downstream ends are opened. The downstream end of the exhaust gas passage 5 of the upstream filter 3 is faced to the upstream end of the exhaust gas inflow passage 7 of the downstream filter 4, and the downstream end of the exhaust gas outflow passage 6 is faced to the upstream end of the exhaust gas passage 8 of the downstream filter 4. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
