PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reliability of a magnetic disk unit by preventing the demodulation of written old data caused by recording position shifting or recording head damage during information recording regarding the magnetic disk unit. SOLUTION: To update the data of a given sector, the place of the sector and the information of the number of times of updating are stored in a temporary memory. When the magnetic disk unit is in an idle state, the updating information of data recorded in the sector is collated with the updating information of the temporary memory. When both bits of updating information coincide with each other, the data is determined not to be old data, and the sector information is erased from the temporary memory. In this case, information indicating the collation of information to be recorded is included in the sector data on a magnetic disk medium to be recorded. The demodulation of old data is prevented without deteriorating the performance/cost performance of the magnetic disk device. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
