PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient alternating-current power regulator which reduces the switching loss of alternating-current switches. SOLUTION: The alternating-current power regulator comprises a first alternating-current switch 4, which is placed between an input terminal 1a and an output terminal 3a and is composed of semiconductor devices and diodes; and a second alternating-current switch 5, which is placed between the end of the first alternating-current switch 4 on the output terminal 3a side and a common line Y and is composed of semiconductor devices and diodes. The power regulator takes an arbitrary alternating-current voltage out of an input alternating-current power supply P and outputs the voltage. The first alternating- current switch 4 is controlled, according to a high-frequency signal from a high-frequency signal generator 6. The second alternating-current switch 5 is controlled according to a detection signal given by a current detector 12 by each half cycle of an output alternating current. As a result, since the switching loss of the second alternating-current switch 5 is reduced to be very low, an efficient alternating-current power regulator is realized. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
