A compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof has the formula (I) [Region a]-[Region b]-[Region g]-[Region d] wherein: [Region a] is a moiety of the formula (2) R27-W1-N(R4)-R5- C(R6)(A)-* wherein the symbol * indicates the point of attachment of the moiety of the formula (2) to [Region b]; A is optionally substituted phenyl; [Region b] is an alkyl bridging element of partial formula (3) *-C(R40)-C(R41)® * is a symbol which represents the point of attachment of the moiety of partial formula (3) to [Region a]; ® is a symbol which represents the point of attachment of the moiety of partial formula (3) to [Region g]; [Region g] is an aza-bicyclic moiety of partial formula (4); * is a symbol which represents the point of attachment of the moiety of partial formula (4) to [Region b]; ® is a symbol representing a covalent bond from any of the carbon atoms of the moiety of partial formula (4) to [Region d]; k, l and m are each an 0 to 3; [Region d] is an optionally substituted two nitrogen atom containing five-membered heterocyclic moiety or alkyl-, cycloalkyl-, and alkenyl-(substituted)-amide, carbamate, or urea moieties of partial formula *-N(R73)-W5-R77 or *- N(R73)-W5-R82 or a substituted 5-membered heterocyclyl moiety of partial formula (6) or (7); Q is N, O or S and R4 to R6, W1, R40, R41, W4, R73, W5, R27, R51, R77, R82, R90a, R90b, a and j are as defined in the specification. The compounds are useful for treating or preventing infection by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or for treating or preventing adult respiratory distress syndrome, bronchitis, chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, asthma, emphysema, rhinitis and chronic sinusitis.
