An isolated cell capable of complementing adenovirus E2A function of a recombinant adenovirus defective in E2A function comprises a nucleic acid comprising the coding sequence of ts125E2A or functional portion thereof under control of cytomegalovirus regulatory sequences. The cell may further comprise a nucleic acid encoding adenovirus E1- region proteins.
