PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation apparatus capable of displaying character information required by a user on a map. SOLUTION: The navigation apparatus is provided with a display means for displaying information; a map data storage means for storing map data; a vehicle location detecting means for detecting the present location of a vehicle; a display control means for reading the map data corresponding to the location of the vehicle detected by the vehicle location detecting means and displaying a map of the vicinity of the location of the vehicle on the display means on the basis of the read map data; and a character information switching means for switching character information to be displayed on the map. The display control means displays character information different from previously displayed character information in the case that the character information is switched by the character information switching means.
