PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To load a group of small containers arranged in lines onto a shelf board without generating sudden freezing of material to be dried in the small containers even if they suffer shock caused by contact of the small containers upon loading the small containers which are filled with the material to be dried on the shelf board provided in a drying chamber of a freeze dryer by using a loading device. SOLUTION: In a pipe passage of heat medium to be assembled in a shelf board in the drying chamber, a pre-cooling circuit for supplying heat medium cooled at a range of temperatures for not freezing the material to be dried and a freeze dryer circuit for supplying heat medium cooled at a predetermined temperature for freeze-drying the material to be dried are connected via a switching valve. Upon loading the group of small containers by the loading device, the heat medium is supplied from the pre-cooling circuit to the shelf board to perform pre-cooling. After loading of the group of small containers onto the shelf board by the loading device is finished, the freeze dryer circuit is switched to control the temperature of shelf board for cooling the shelf board at a predetermined temperature and freezing.
