PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide-band optical fiber having a wide band suitable for data communication, preventing the occurrence of cracking and chipping of fibers even when a crimp type connector is caulked and press-fixed with sufficient press-fixing power, having a low loss by press-fixing, high accuracy for aligning the axis and low connection loss, making joining with a conventional quartz GI optical fiber having 125μm fiber diameter easy, and having excellent interchangeability with the existing quartz GI type optical fiber. SOLUTION: The optical fiber is a graded index optical fiber composed of (1) a core comprising quartz glass having distribution of the refractive index, (2) a clad comprising quartz glass tightly applied around the core, and (3) a polymer coating layer tightly applied around the clad. The polymer coating layer consists of a UV cured hard polymer having D55 or higher Shore hardness and≥5μm thickness. A primary coating layer (4) and a secondary coating layer (5) are formed so as to adhere to the outer periphery of the optical fiber to obtain a coated optical fiber. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
