PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an epoxidized polyphenylene ether wherein a polyphenylene ether is efficiently reacted even with a small amount of an epoxy compound by increasing the reaction rate while suppressing side reactions such as the gelation of the epoxy compound or the ring opening of an epoxy group. SOLUTION: In this method for producing an epoxidized polyphenylene ether, an amine compound is used as a catalyst in reacting a polyphenylene ether having a weight average mol.wt. lower than 10,000 with an epoxy compound having at least two epoxy groups while the polyphenylene ether is kept in the solid state.
