PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a masking pin capable of forming a coating layer on the surface of a member without plugging holes perforated on the member. SOLUTION: When a coating layer composed of a metal bonding layer 21 and a zirconia ceramic layer 22 is formed on a base material 12 exposed under a high temperature and having holes 11 (through holes) on the surface, the masking pin 30 for sealing the through hole 11 is made from a material a part or the whole of which is eliminated without being bonded with the zirconia ceramic layer 22 in the formation of the coating layer. As the material for the masking pin, graphite 31, a carbon fiber reinforced plastic 32, a polyethylene coated metallic core material or a fluororesin coated metallic core material can be used. The masking pin 30 prevents the plugging of the holes 11 perforated on the base material 12 in the formation of the coating layer to form holes 23 having the same diameter as the holes 11 on the coating layer.
