PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which effectively attracts user's attention in spite of using a relatively low-cost and monocolor liquid crystal display element. SOLUTION: A number of chip LEDs 24 are disposed in a backlight module 27 which is disposed on the rear surface of a liquid crystal panel 21 via a diffuser sheet 22. Each chip LED 24 is a two-color light emitting type having a red LED chip and a green LED chip. When the information to be watched by a user such as alarm information is displayed on one part of the liquid crystal panel 21, only the chip LED 24 which is located on the lower side of that part is made to emit light redly and the remaining chip LEDs 24 are made to emit light greenly.
