PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection method and device for an assembly capable of efficiently and accurately inspecting the shape of each part constituting the assembly or an assembling position. SOLUTION: The inspection device 40 comprises a flat floodlight 43 providing illumination from behind an inspection body 41, a light guide 44 providing uniform illumination to the inspection portion from behind the inspection body 41 and a ring light guide 45, and a floodlight drive control circuit 52 selects the most proper one during inspection according to the inspection portion. Image signal obtained from a CCD camera 46 is converted with an A/D converter 53 to digital signal and stored in a measured data memory 54 as light and shade data for each pixel. A distance measurement circuit 55 makes a measurement pattern based on the light and shade data. By comparing one closest to the measurement pattern among reference patterns and the measurement pattern, good or bad of the shape of the inspection body 41 is determined. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
