A method of screening for a bioactive agent that can alter cellular phenotype, whereby the agent is combined with a population of cells and then the cells are sorted using fluorescent activated cell sorting (FACS) on the basis of at least five cellular parameters (such as light scattering, quantity of granule specific proteins).
