PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy-saving and resource-saving type water heater for efficiently treating expansion water generated by a main stop system water heater. SOLUTION: An expansion water tank 6 having capacity exceeding an expansion water quantity at heating time of at least the electric water heater 1 is arranged in a water supply side pipe for supplying water to the electric water heater 1. The water of an expansion quantity is transferred to the expansion water tank 6 from the inside of the electric water heater 1 of a full water state before heating, and hot water expanded at heating time is stored in the electric water heater 1 of lowering in a water level. The capacity of the expansion water tank 6 is arranged so as to store water by transferring the water of a water quantity stored in a hot water supply pipe 12 reaching a water discharge port 4 from the electric water heater 1 from the electric water heater 1 in addition to the expansion water quantity at heating time.
