PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aqueous adhesive composition which overcomes the defects of a conventional aqueous acrylic copolymer, has water resistance equal to or higher than that of a solvent-type acrylic copolymer and other adhesive properties equivalent to those of the solvent-type acrylic copolymer. SOLUTION: The aqueous adhesive composition comprises a hydroxy group- containing acrylic copolymer emulsion (A) obtained by emulsion polymerization in the presence of a reactive surfactant and zirconyl ammonium carbonate (B).
