<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely determine the kind of a vehicle traveling on a road at high speed based on the number of axles, and a distance value and a width value between tires detected by a laser sensor or an optical sensor. <P>SOLUTION: This vehicle kind determination system is provided with a vehicle detecting means 110 detecting a vehicle entering into a vehicle detection area on the road, an axle count part 120 counting the number of axles of the detected vehicle, an image photographing means 130 photographing the image of the front surface of the rear surface of the detected vehicle, and a vehicle kind determination processor 140 calculating the distance and the width of the tires between the detected vehicle based on the photographed image and determining the kind of the vehicle based on the number of the axles detected by the axle count part 120 and the calculated distance value and the width value between the tires. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
