摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a gradation inverting phenomenon without depending on observing direction in a liquid crystal display device having liquid crystal regions where liquid crystal molecules are axis-symmetrically aligned in every pixel region, excellent visual field angle characteristics and high contrast. <P>SOLUTION: A phase difference compensation element having negative double refractivity and the relation n<SB>x</SB>>n<SB>y</SB>>n<SB>z</SB>about main refractive indices n<SB>x</SB>and n<SB>y</SB>in an intra-surface direction and the main refractive index n<SB>z</SB>in the thickness direction is disposed between a liquid crystal cell wherein liquid crystal molecules are nearly vertically aligned when no voltage is applied and liquid crystal molecules are axis-symmetrically aligned in every liquid crystal region and a polarizing plate disposed in a orthogonally crossed nicols state. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
