PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission for vehicle with a shortened axial dimension. SOLUTION: This automatic transmission has a first input shaft 10a and a second input shaft 10b coaxially mounted, and an output shaft 19 in parallel with the input shafts, and a plurality of trains of speed change gears are mounted between the input shafts 10a, 10b and the output shaft 19. An input switching shaft 20 is mounted in parallel with the input shafts 10a, 10b and the output shaft 19, and the input switching shaft 20 is provided with a first frictional clutch 31 for switching a power transmitting state and a cut-off state relative to the first input shaft 10a, and a second frictional clutch 31 for switching a power transmitting state and a cut-off state relative to the second input shaft 10b. A torque converter 49 is mounted between a crank shaft 48 of an engine and the input switching shaft 20, and engine power is diverted to the input switching shaft 20 and transmitted to the output shaft 19 by the first frictional clutch 31 or the second frictional clutch 32.
