PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which enables the adjustment of illuminance and coloring and enables a black-and-white display brighter than a full color display. SOLUTION: The projector 1 is provided with a discharge lamp 60, a color wheel 70 which receives the light from the discharge lamp 60 and respectively fractionates the same into the rays of light having at least wavelengths of R, G and B, a DMD 50 which optically modulates the lights R, G, B fractionated by the color wheel, a projection means 100 which projects the light modulated by the DMD (digital mirror device) 50 and a color wheel driving part 40 which makes the position of the color wheel 70 changeable.
