PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost automatic adjusting device for a gap between shoes reliably preventing the rash act of a nut member during operation to over-adjust the gap between shoes, reduced in the number of parts, and simplifying assembly. SOLUTION: A strut 123 to regulate return positions of a pair of brake shoes is composed of rotatable nut members 124; a fit-in member 125 non- rotatable itself and fitted in one of the nut members 124 to effect support; and a bolt member 126 non-rotatable itself and supporting the other part of the nut members 124 by a screw joint. A drive member 127 made of a temperature sensitive material has both a function to automatically rotate the nut member 124 when the stroke of the brake shoe exceeds a given value and a function to stop the rotation of the nut member 124 by temperature deformation in the direction in which an elastic force to separate the nut member 124 and the fit-in member 125 from each other vanishes, is hung over between the nut member 124 and the fit-in member 125.
