PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controlling method and device for the ignition of an engine capable of controlling the engine ignition performance precisely and accurately. SOLUTION: The dwell-on timing and the ignition timing are calculated for a reference cylinder at 180-deg. intervals of the cranking angle, and on the basis of the data from calculations, the reference cylinder or other cylinders is/are ignited. The timer driving division for confirming the attainment of the dwell-on timing and the ignition timing may be minimized to the set reference angle approximately, and a misfire likely generated in the changeover process of cylinders to be ignited is prevented by the forced dwell-on/ignition-on operation. Influence of missing pulses can be removed by regulating the timer driving time. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
