PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image forming apparatus capable of achieving error- reduction and accurate toner concentration control without changing a reference value for the toner concentration control of an inductance detection sensor regardless of an increase in the number of copies. SOLUTION: A control means is capable of altering and adjusting the value of a control signal that is input to a density sensor, according to a change in a detection output to the inductance detection sensor 20 which is caused by mixing-in and accumulation of electrified carrier. The control means has a control value alteration means 67 capable of altering the value of the control signal of the control means according to the operating time of the image forming apparatus. The control value alteration means 67 can be altered stepwise, linearly, and non-linearly. The operating time for image formation is determined on the basis of information about the number of copies, the operating time of a developer stir member, and the video count number of an image density signal.
