PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that a motor of a paper currency handling device could not drive under low temperature conditions due to increase in load torque of the motor caused by hardening of belts or lubricants, or contraction of gears. SOLUTION: At least 2 kinds of acceleration for starting a motor are prepared such as the first acceleration (at normal temperature) and the second acceleration, which is smaller than the first acceleration, (at lower temperature). When the motor does not drive, the motor is restarted using the second acceleration. Therefore, even if the load torque increases, by using the second acceleration, defect of the motor torque can be avoided. For example, if the inner temperature of the device is lower than the certain temperature, the second acceleration is automatically selected to drive the motor, or by providing 2 modes such as a normal temperature mode and a low temperature mode, the low temperature mode can be selected after long suspension during nights.
