PROCESS FOR PREPARATION OF 4-OXYTETRAHYDROPYRAN-2-ONES

A procedure of preparation of inhibitors of HMG-CoA reductase, such as e.g. simvastatin, from 4-silyloxytetra-hydropyran-2-ones is described, where triethylamine trihydrofluoride is used as a reagent for desilylation. The reaction is carried out in organic solvents, their mixtures or without solvents. Typical for the reaction is that no additional impurities are obtained and that it takes place without use of additional catalysts and with small excesses of the reagent.
