PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device capable of automatically detecting abrasion progression state of a carrier member with non-touch by a simple configuration. SOLUTION: A detection layer mixed with conductive fiber is provided in an abrasion limit position at a given depth from the surface of a roller 1. A micro-wave is irradiated to the roller 1 from a micro-wave sensor 2, a reflection wave from the conductive fiber is detected with the micro-wave sensor 2 and the detected output is monitored withe a comparison decision part 4. The comparison decision part 4 judges abrasion state of the roller 1 by making use of that reflection wave signal level varies with the abrasion loss of the roller 1. When the abrasion loss of the roller 1 approaches or reaches a limit, it outputs an alarm. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
