PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyester which obtains a molded product, particularly a heat-resistant hollow molded product having excellent long-term continuous moldability, excellent transparency and heat-resistant dimensional stability, and reduced variability of the rate of crystallization. SOLUTION: The method for producing the polyester comprises (a) a low polymer polymerization step of esterifying or transesterifying mainly terephthalic acid or its ester-forming derivative with mainly ethylene glycol or its ester- forming derivative, (b) a melt polycondensation step, (c) a step of bringing the resulting polyester into contact with water, (d) a step of subjecting the resulting polyester and at least any one member of a member made of a polyolefin resin, a member made of a polyamide resin, and a member made of a polyacetal resin to contact treatment, and (e) a step of removing fines and/or filmy substances from the resulting polyester.
