PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transition metal compound solution that does not lower the polymerization activity even if stored for a long period of time after the preparation and a process for the polymerization of an olefin using the solution. SOLUTION: The transition metal compound solution comprises a transition metal compound of the IV group of the periodic table containing a ligand having a cyclopentadienyl skeleton and an organic solvent wherein the concentration of the transition metal compound is not less than 0.05 mmol/L.
