PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing apparatus having improved durability and capable of attaining an accurate temperature control by improving the heat resistant performance of a non-contact type temperature detecting means for accurately detecting a thermal change, and to provide an image forming apparatus equipped with the fixing apparatus. SOLUTION: As for the fixing apparatus 30 provided with a fixing rotating body 2 heated by a heating means, and the non-contact type temperature detecting means 1 which is arranged in non-contact with the fixing rotating body 2, so as to detect the heat radiated from the fixing rotating body, and wherein the temperature of the fixing rotating body is controlled based on the detection result of the non-contact type temperature detecting means 1, a holder 24 is attached to the means 1 from the outside, and a space part 32 is formed between the outer surface 6a of the non-contact type temperature detecting means and the inside surface 24b of the holder.
