An absorbent article comprising one or more fibrous structures, characterized in the following way: a) at least a portion of the surface of at least one of the fibrous structures is bound to at least one or more types of polar, silicon containing compounds; b) the fibrous structure of (a) exhibits a predetermined degree of hydrophilicity that is substantially unaffected by wetting of the structure, and/or exhibits adhesion properties which are substantially unaffected by wetting of the structure.
