The inflation device has a metal element (10), e.g. a diffusor plate, provided with openings (15) through which the gas generated by the inflation device is fed into the gas sack, with cooling and/or filtering of the gas fed into the gas sack before it contacts the gas sack envelope. The edges (16) of the openings have projecting sections (17) stamped out from the material of the metal element, across which the gas flows for providing the cooling and/or filtering effect. The metal element has a flange (13) with fixing openings (14) for securing to an airbag module.
