The invention relates to an extremity intravenous site protective device employed by medical personnel, and especially to devices used for protecting intravenous sites from contact and injury. The intravenous site protective device (10) comprises a rigid elongate upper element (11) and a rigid elongate lower element (12) which are oppositely secured on a patient's extremities such as an arm (13). The upper element (11) is configured so as to allow the mounting of a catheter (15) and of the supply tubing (16) in order to prevent the accidental dislodgement during transport or as a consequence of the patient's movement. The securing straps (22) maintain the upper and lower elements (11 and 12) on the wearer's extremity, while a resilient sponge (19) placed beneath the upper element (11), against the wearer's skin, for ensuring a proper circulation to the intravenous site (14). The rigid plastic ensures the protection of the intravenous site (14) from being hurt or contacted with clothes or other articles during the intravenous transfer of the fluid. According to the invention, the preferred form is made from transparent plastic to allow the easy monitoring by the medical personnel.
