Powdered polymer is first placed into a mold and sintered while the mold shaken or rotated to produce the outer decorative layer (1). The process is repeated to produce an adhesion promoter layer (2) and, with a foaming agent, a foamed layer (15). The layers are then transferred to a foaming mold where a layer of expanded polypropylene (3), e.g. supplied in the form of beads, is sintered into position at a pressure below 4.5 bar. An Independent claim is also included for a plastic component comprising a decorative layer (1) up to 0.6 mm thick, a foamed layer (15) of thermoplastic polyolefin up to 4 mm thick, and a support layer (3) of expanded polypropylene.
