Method for determining an offset value for a pressure signal determined using a hydraulic pressure sensor (500) in a motor vehicle braking circuit. Accordingly the pressure is measured at a number of time points and when a first condition is fulfilled a blocking time is defined in which the pressure signal values are not used to determine the offset value. When a second condition is fulfilled, a second blocking time is defined in which pressure signal values are used to determined the offset if they lie above or below a previously determined offset value. An Independent claim is made for a device for determining the offset value of a hydraulic pressure sensor. The invention is an extension from DE 100 65 022.
