<p>1306300 Laminating apparatus HARRISINTERTYPE CORP 20 July 1970 [28 July 1969] 35063/70 Heading B5N A double facer machine comprises a plurality of heated platens 18 having upper surfaces 19 alignable in co-planar relation for contact with a web 16 of paperboard, an endless belt 12 above said surfaces for conveying paperboard across said surfaces, at least two ballast rolls 26 supported above each platen and in contact with the lower run of the belt, said platens being mounted in such a manner as to permit downward movement of the platens away from the endless belt for the purpose of decreasing heat transfer to paperboard conveyed by said belt, and means for moving the ballast rolls upwardly in response to the downward movement of the platens. In the embodiment shown, each platen 18 is pivoted by means of a cylinder 30 pivotably supported at its lower end, a piston 28 extending from the cylinder and having its free end pivotably connected to the upstream end of the platen, conduits being provided to introduce a fluid pressure medium into the cylinder 30 to effect tilting of the platen. Each platen is provided with lugs 36 and 38 contacting the ends of levers 40 and 44 respectively. As the platen is tilted, lugs 36 and 38 rotate the levers 40 and 44 in a counter-clockwise direction, the upper ends 48 and 48<SP>1</SP> of the levers engaging the lower ends of links 54 and 56 and moving the ballast roll 26 upwardly from the belt 12.</p> |
