The method of extinguishing fires in enclosed rooms circulates at least some of the fire gas, and reduces the oxygen content in the air so as to confine the development of heat. The combustion heat is at least partially diverted by means of water condensation and conveying excess gas from the seat of the fire. The water is condensed in a washing stage to which the fire gases are conveyed and then absorbed over a fan.
