The invention refers to cart (10) for filling intermodal shipping containers (60) with a bulk particulate material, such as grain. The cart (10) includes a hopper (14) to receive he bulk material and a belt conveyor (16) to deliver the material to the container (60). The conveyor (16) is positioned external of the container (60) and throws the material along an arcuate path to the opposite end of the container (60) whereby the container (60) is substantially filled without the need to extend the conveyor (16) into the container (60). The cart (10) is supported on wheels (28) to be moved where needed. The cart (10) can straddle a standard truck trailer (44) carrying a container (60) so that the container need not be removed from the trailer (44) for filling. The conveyor height is variable to reach a container (60) on a truck trailer (44) or on the ground. The cart width can also be reduced for road transport.
