The invention relates to a method for operating an inking system or a dampening system in a printing machine. At least three adjacent-lying rollers (52, 53, 56) or cylinders in at least two roller strips (62, 63) are provided in said inking system or dampening system. At least one of the rollers (52) is mounted in a machine frame in such a way that it can be adjusted in relation to the other rollers (53, 54). A force having a variable amplitude and direction is used to press the adjustably mounted roller into the space between the adjacent-lying rollers for variable adjustment of the respective pressure force in the two roller strips.
