HYBRID STREAMING PLATFORM

A digital-media server platform is disclosed that comprises a hybrid architecture (100). In a preferred embodiment, the hybrid architecture comprises a dedicated hardware-optimized streaming device (110) that deliver s streaming content to a client (170) on a network (180, 190) under control of a general-purpose computer (120). The architecture also includes an abstractio n layer used to interface the general-purpose computer with the streaming device, and several dedicated data buses (141) that connect the general- purpose computer to the streaming device hardware.
