The resetting device for a piston (2) guided in a cylinder (3) has a return spring (6) and a threaded bolt (11) co-axial to it and which is guided through a hole in the piston and screws into the cylinder. The return spring bears by one end against the bolt and by the other end against the piston. The cylinder is provided with a slot (16), a flank (19) of which limits the screw travel of the bolt. The piston acts as a pressure medium actuated brake piston acting against brake discs (5) on the steering or fixed axle of an excavator.
