An electronic apparatus includes an Ethernet interface for connecting the apparatus to a network; means for assigning an IP address to the apparatus for use by the apparatus to initiate communication with a TCP/IP server in the network having means for diagnosing and/or aligning the electronic appliance; and means for executing commands from the TCP/IP server and for reporting status to the TCP/IP server. The commands are selected from the group consisting of maintenance commands, diagnostic commands, software update commands, and alignment commands.
