A rotary knife (10) having an annular blade (18), a split blade housing (14) for supporting the blade (18) for rotation, a handle assembly (12) including a head member (40) for supporting the split blade housing (14), and a clamping assembly (42) including a clamp body (60) for clamping the split blade housing (14) to the head member (40). A portion of the split blade housing (14) is provided with an area of scoring along a bearing surface (67) that bears against the clamp body (60). Similarly, the clamp body (60) is provided with an area of scoring (142) along a bearing surface(66) that bears against the blade housing (14) bearing surface (67). The areas of scoring (140,142) coact to inhibit movement of one end (80) of the split blade housing (14) with respect to a second end (82) of the split blade housing (14) when the split blade housing (14) is clamped to the head member (40). <IMAGE>
