Plate-like component (11-13) made of chip board, MDF or HDF board, or OSB wood-particle board has slit-like recesses (5) for receiving other plate-like components. The width of a recess corresponds to the material thickness of the component to be received. The maximum length of the recess is half the length of the component measured in the direction of the longitudinal extension of the recess. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) System for constructing furniture, especially shelves, from the above component; (2) System for constructing a shelter, shed, or hut using the above component; (3) Shelf comprising the above component; and (4) Shed comprising the above component. Preferred Features: The recesses are arranged parallel to each other.
