1440214 Vaccines in solid particulate form UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS FOUNDATION 5 Sept 1973 41812/73 Heading A5B Pharmaceutical preparations for oral administration to animals comprise a villiarly effective attenuated virus vaccine e.g. transmissible gastroenteritis (TGE) vaccine in solid particulate form, the vaccine being subject to degradation by contact with the gastric secretions off the animal, and an enteric coating e.g. cellulose acetate phthalate, covering each particle, the particles having a maximum diameter of 2.0 mm such that they will pass from the stomach through the pyloric valve into the intestine of the animal before the enteric coating is destroyed by the gastric secretions. The particles are preferably spherical or approximately spherical and may additionally comprise a solid physiologically acceptable carrier e.g. an animal feedstuff. The particles may be encapsulated in a material which dissolves rapidly in the stomach of the animal e.g. gelatin.
