PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remotely operated head restraint retracting device which enables a head restraint to be retracted smoothly and appropriately with a simple structure. SOLUTION: This device includes a head restraint support 12 through which a head restraint stay 11 passes so as to move up and down, and a lock means 13 which is constructed so as to engage/disengage with an engagement groove 11a formed on the head restraint stay 11. The lock means 13 is pneumatically driven by remote control to engage/disengaging the engagement groove 11a. There is provided a spring 14 which energizes the head restraint stay 11 downward, therefore the head restraint stay 11 is moved down by the force of the spring 14. The lock means 13 includes a lock button 16 and a lock piece 17 fitted so as to slide. There is also provided a decompression device 19 producing a negative pressure for pneumatically driving the lock button 16. The decompression device 19 is on/off controlled by remote control.
