<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a cubic boron nitride sintered body using a high-temperature/high-pressure generating apparatus in which properties of the cubic boron nitride sintered body is stabilized and a product yield is improved by stabilizing the temperature for heating raw materials; and abrasion resistance of the obtained cubic boron nitride sintered body is improved by preventing the components of a sleeve and a spacer in the high- temperature/high-pressure generating apparatus from entering into the cubic boron nitride sintered body. <P>SOLUTION: A cubic boron nitride powder placed in the high-temperature/ high-pressure generating apparatus is surrounded by moldings of a hexagonal boron nitride powder, and then the inside of the high-temperature/high-pressure generating apparatus is brought to high-temperature/high-pressure conditions. The molding of hexagonal boron nitride has a density in the range of 1.2 g/cm<SP>3</SP>-2 g/cm<SP>3</SP>. The hexagonal boron nitride powder for use in the production of the molding has an average particle size in the range of 3 μm-20 μm. The hexagonal boron nitride molding has a purity of 99% or higher and has a B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>content in the range of 0-0.5%. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
