PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an interference of a steering column assembly with any part of a vehicle. SOLUTION: The steering column assembly 12 is provided, which has a handle 14 movable to an extended position and a retreated position along an axis and capable of being tilted between a tilt position and a non-tilt position making a pivot shaft as a center. A control mechanism 42 restricts an angle and a degree of the tilt movement of the handle 14 such that the steering column can be tilted to the first maximum tilt angle in the case where the steering column assembly 12 is positioned at the extended position and such that the steering column can be tilted to the second maximum tilt angle in the case where it is positioned at the retreated position. The second maximum tilt angle is smaller than the first maximum tilt angle such that the steering column assembly 12 does not interfere with any part of the vehicle. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
